Description	Causes bacterial meningitis, infects joints. From the name of the pathogen it can be seen that H. influenzae was originally identified as a causative agent of influenza, but in fact H. Influenzae with influenza is not related. WHO estimates that H. influenzae type b causes about 3 million serious illnesses and is the annual cause of death of 386,000 people, most of whom are children aged 4 to 18 months. Among all types of H. influenzae type b causes about 90% of all cases of infection. H. Influenzae may be the cause of pneumonia, meningitis, epiglottitis (inflammation of the epiglottis). H. Influenza is associated with pericarditis, cellulitis, osteomyelitis, septic arthritis, and according to some data and with the development of type I diabetes. H. Influenzae is found in the nasopharynx in 75-90% of healthy people living in an area where vaccination is not carried out. Virtually all children who are not vaccinated against H. Influenzae are exposed to it at the age of up to five years. H. Influenzae are spread by airborne droplets when exhaled. In rare cases, there is lymphogenous and hematogenous dissemination with damage to the meninges (meningitis) and lungs (pneumonia). Rarely H. Influenzae may cause septic arthritis and sepsis in young children
